Went to the Greater Vancouver Zoo today. Great day for it, raining, 10 - 12 degrees C but at least no crowd. We finished at the coffee shop and he had sold two coffees for the day. Only about three other cars in the parking lot. Even most of the animals had enough sense to stay in out of the rain. But we did get to see the Black Bears.
Very interesting afternoon, seeing some animals I haven't seen before. With winter just around the corner here, many outdoor type places are starting to move to winter programs which are greatly cut back or stopped altogether.
Some of the more interesting animals were Red and Gray Kangaroos and Emus. Just kidding, seen plenty of those but was a surprise to see them here. One very cunning animal was the Coyote. He came out of the trees and limped down to and along the fence with a very forlorn look. We were trying to decide whether he was injured or whether it was an old injury and hence the reason he was in the zoo. Then we found a sign on the fence saying that it was a learned behaviour, there was nothing wrong with him and he was just seeking attention.
That's about it for the day, I hope you like animals as that is what the photos are of. Show your kids if you have any, they'll enjoy them. You will have to excuse a couple of the photos as they were taken with the camera lens fogged.
Tomorrow we go for a drive up into the northern mountains near where we went on the first day of our ride, then it's back to Fort Langley to complete packing.
